The Yorkshire Terrier, commonly refered to as a 'Yorkie', is a small breed of dog of the terrier type. The defining features of the breed are its size, ranging from 3 to 7 pounds, and its silky blue and tan coat.
Like the Maltese, Yorkies have hair, not fur, shed very little and are considered hypoalergenic. The coat is glossy, fine, straight and silky, and is traditionally grown long and parted in the middle.
Though small, the Yorkshire Terrier is active, loves attention, is very overprotective and make excellent guard dogs because they will sound the alarm when anyone gets near.
